STH YOUNG ARTISTS SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION
SPOKE THE HUB DANCING, Brooklyn?s premier community arts organizations, will be holding open scholarship auditions for young dancers (ages 8-18) on Saturday, September 11th from 4:00-6:00pm. ?Dancers new to Spoke the Hub who would like to audition for STH's Junior Performing Ensemble (ages 8-12) or STH's Young Artists Dance/Theater (ages 12-18), should also attend these auditions. ?Must call in advance to schedule an audition appointment: ?718.408-3234.
SESSION ONE: 4:00 - 5:00 PM FOR DANCERS WITHOUT PREVIOUS DANCE TRAINING
SESSION TWO: 5:00 - 6:00 PM FOR DANCERS WITH DANCE TRAINING
The audition will take the form of a modern dance class and will include warm-up, ?improvisation, and combinations across the floor. Students will be selected for full and partial dance study scholarships based on financial need and merit (students do not need to prepare any material in advance). Dance scholarships will be awarded for classes in Modern Dance Technique, Ballet, and Improvisation/Choreography/Performance. Teenagers may also audition to be considered for work/study internships in our office if they are new to STH. Students of color, with or without previous dance training, are particularly encouraged to apply.
Students involved in dance at STH have plenty of opportunities to create and perform their own original choreography throughout the year. ?They also work with professional guest artists, and are often invited to participate in SPOKE THE HUB?s professional adult productions. Over the years, SPOKE THE HUB?s young artists have earned additional scholarships to the American Dance?Festival, the Alvin Ailey School, and the Feld Ballet, in addition to colleges throughout the country. ? They have also performed with Spoke's adult company at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, at the World Trade Centers, and at Lincoln Center, as well as performing independently at the Kitchen, P.S. 122, DTW, and with Meredith Monk/The House. ?This year, we are hoping to go on tour to China and Japan. All youth company members are required to take a minimum of two technique classes a week at SPOKE THE HUB, and must be available for occasional additional weekend rehearsals and performances throughout the year. This pre-professional program is geared toward developing tomorrow?s most outstanding and creative theater artists. ?Please call for further information about this program.

NEW WORKS ON THE WALL (WOW !) EXHIBIT & ARTISTS RECEPTION
Statement:
I am interested in form, the transcendence of form and the co-existence of opposites. I?usually begin painting from found-object assemblages I construct. I am interested in how much of the original materiality of the sculpture is retained through my playful and experimental painting process, and how the names of the assembled materials (ie. plastic cow, toothpick, fake chicken leg, moss, etc.) become obsolete in the painting, opening up the world of abstraction. Mostly differentiated images become characters with personalities made of their physical and illusory texture, color, gesture, scale, etc. Each character, familiar yet unrecognizable, creates a transitional space between concretion and?Megan will also be teaching Drawing and Painting on Monday nights here at Spoke as well as leading several MAKING THINGS crafts workshops on Sunday afternoons throughout the fall.
