What people are saying about Spoke the Hub:

Great classes for kids: This Park Slope institution has been around forever. However, their new space on Union Street is absolutely wonderful. The dance teachers are warm and caring. They really do a great job with the kids. The price is excellent

Spoke the Hub school year and summer classes: %u200EOur entire family has been enriched by my 12 year old sons participation in STH classes this year! Parents get more than their moneys worth with a generous amount of class time and guidance by experienced teachers who know how to encourage their students to learn, create, collaborate and stretch themselves in new ways. The experiences have been more than well rounded with equal attention paid to dancing, theater and working with others within class and the larger community. A highlight for us was watching the students perform thier own works in various community gardens as well as STH performance spaces on Union and Douglas Streets. We can highly recommend STH as an enriching resource for your child.

Thank you Spoke the Hub for a fabulous one and half weeks of serious artistic growth! The instructors have been excellent and Zev has gotten so much out of the experience. I love what you do! It is also a great service to the community that you have programming throughout the entire summer. This has been a lifesaver for us.

I’ve been a devoted Spoke the Hub groupie. Their classes are creative and uplifting. The school attracts some of the most inventive and interesting artists, but most of all they are patient and good teachers who value creatvity and exercise. Over the years I have become addicted to Macho Girls (a great, challenging class which hits every part of your body), CardioDance and Yoga ( a class that combines cardio with stretch and strengthening in just the right proportions) and African drumming (a fantastic class for beginners and more advanced students taught by Gabriella Denning, a woman of extraordinary patience and wisdom). Love the Hub!

I have been taking Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Heidi Kinney for around 5 years. When I first started, I had been going to another yoga studio where the class was more like a meat market and I got no personal attention. When I started at Spoke, with Heidi, I immediately felt noticed and my specific issues were immediately addressed. The two things that stick out in my mind about Heidi are that she is very knowledgeable and sensitive–knows what asanas work for what issue, as well as how to move each individual “yogini” along on their unique yogic path; and, she has a wonderful sense of humor, which helps tremendously on the journey to become a strong yogini! I highly recommend her class.

I always have said “I can’t dance” and, like most men, I have avoided group dance and fitness classes like the plague. Plus, for a 57 year old, slim, academic, I don’t look that bad so I have been able to maintain the illusion (to myself and others) that I  am not out of shape. Deep down inside, though, I knew that the aches and pains, soreness and stiffness after what used to be routine tasks –like cutting the grass or moving furniture around — was a message from my body that something was amiss. So, with much trepidation, I let myself be dragged to Elise Long’s “Men’s Total Body Workout” class at Spoke the Hub, supposedly geared for aging weekend warriors like myself. I had no idea what to expect and I was concerned that  I would be gasping for breath or unable to bend while others in the class would be running circles around me. But it wasn’t long before I realized that the class is designed to do as much or as little as you are able and that the other baby-boomers were paying attention to their own creaks and cracks and not at all to mine. The payoff was walking outside after the class and feeling upright, 2 inches taller, stiffness gone –not exactly young, but not ancient either. Just ‘lighter’, relaxed, and more energized. That was good enough for me. Elise knows her stuff; plus she is funny and makes it seem so not an ‘exercise class’.
