Wildlife Preserve
Gowanus Wildlife Preserve Concert Series Spoke the Hub’s newest “Gowanus Wildlife Preserve Concert Series” invites performers of all stylistic bents, ages, and levels of notoriety, to share their work with the public in the underserved industrial and residential neighborhood of the Gowanus in Brooklyn. The Preserve hopes to promote, preserve, and protect all manner of wild theatrical flora and fauna, while breathing new life and vigor into the polluted water and air surrounding the Gowanus Canal. Both tradition-based artists and cutting edge experimental artists are encouraged to apply, as well as amateur community performing groups. Proposals for shared concerts, informal showings, single weekend or multi-weekend full productions, installations, exhibits and multi-media events are accepted and reviewed throughout the year. Productions may be self-produced, co-produced, or artists may apply for fully produced concerts.
AND all performances will be reviewed by young and established writers. Reviews will be published at www.gowanuswildlifereview.org. If you are a writer interested in being included on the “new critics” roster, please follow this link.
Shared Showcases
If interested in showcasing a single work or work-in-progress on a shared program at the Gowanus. Spoke the Hub will help organize independent and like-minded artists into three general categories:
- “Emerging Artists” will generally refer to artists 21-35 years old who are just beginning to establish their own unique artistic identities. These shows will usually be co-produced and will include 4-6 artists/performing groups on each program. (Older artists just beginning to develop their own artistic voices may also be included in this category.)
- “Established Artists” will generally refer to seasoned artists 35-50 years old with at least ten years of original work under their belts and an established track record in the field. These shows may be co-produced with the artists or fully produced by Spoke the Hub depending on funding.
- “Mentors & Masters” will generally refer to artists 50 years old and older who have spent the better part of their adult professional lives honing and sharing their craft and vision. These artists will be fully produced by Spoke the Hub, usually on a shared program with 2-4 other artists of the same age and caliber, and will also be asked to teach a master class or give a lecture/demonstration in conjunction with their performance.
