The Gowanus Guest Room Series, curated by Brooklyn independent dancer/choreographer Erin Gottwald, is celebrating its 6th year with an exciting show with THREE wonderful Boston-based companies: Falling Flight Project, Contrapose Dance and Annie Kloppenberg & Company.
Curated by Brooklyn independent dancer/choreographer Erin Gottwald, this newest of Spoke the Hub’s concert series gathers artists and performers of all stylistic bents from cities beyond New York, providing a window into unknown dance territory. These out-of-towners have been invited to share their work in the artistically burgeoning industrial and residential neighborhood of the Gowanus in Brooklyn.
2012 Presenting Companies:
Annie Kloppenberg and Company
Boston, MA
anniekloppenberg.com
Annie Kloppenberg creates original works in collaboration with dancers and multi-disciplinary artists to engage audiences as co-collaborators in the visceral pursuit of meaning-making. Each work concerns itself anew with movement vocabulary, visual elements, and spatial design, which yield content and context, developing particular languages of movement for each work and classifying each work as a total experience for audience and performers alike.
Contrapose Dance
Boston, MA – Courtney Peix, Artistic Director
contraposedance.com
Building on a backbone of classical training, Contrapose Dance presents contemporary works designed to plumb deep emotions and celebrate the exhilaration of pure movement. The Company aims to bring a new energy to the theater scene, in Boston and beyond, by commissioning innovative works that challenge choreographers, dancers, and audiences alike. These diverse works challenge their choreographers, by pushing them to take creative risks; the dancers, by asking them to stretch their artistic and athletic abilities; and, finally, our audiences, by inviting them to set aside expectations and respond to the thrill of the new.
Falling Flight Project
Boston, MA – Karen Murphy-Fitch, Artistic Director
fallingflightproject.com
The Falling Flight Project is interested in creating thoughtful and dense works where each dancer is an individual and yet there is unity described through a common language bringing the players back to the realization of their responsibility as a member of a relationship or of a society.
